Common Questions
A few things people usually want to know before reaching out. If your question isn't here, just ask.
What kind of therapy does Reunion Counseling offer?
Reunion works primarily from an attachment perspective, looking at how early relationships shape the way you connect, cope, and see yourself today. Alongside individual, couples, and family therapy, the practice offers performance coaching, speaking, organizational care, and multi-hour intensives.
Do you offer online therapy, or do I need to come into the office?
Both. Sessions are available in person at the Newport Beach office, and virtually for clients anywhere in California.
Where is the office located?
1151 Dove St., Suite 242, Newport Beach, CA 92660.
What is attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy looks at the bonds formed early in life with caregivers, and how those patterns resurface in adult relationships — the bid for reassurance that comes out as anger, or the need for closeness that gets read as control. Recognising that cycle is often the turning point for people who feel stuck having the same argument over and over.
Do you offer EMDR therapy?
Yes. Darren Bagwell is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a leading approach for PTSD and for the lingering effects of traumatic experience.
What is a therapy intensive, and how is it different from weekly sessions?
An intensive is an extended block of concentrated therapeutic time — several hours or a full day — rather than a single weekly hour. It suits a specific issue where the gaps between weekly sessions make momentum hard to build. Reunion offers Wellness Intensives and outdoor Adventure Intensives.
Do you work with couples and families, or only individuals?
All three. Couples work focuses on breaking cycles of conflict, criticism, and withdrawal. Family sessions address communication breakdowns and generational patterns, and can include the whole family or particular members depending on what the situation calls for.
Do you offer premarital counseling?
Yes. Darren is Prepare/Enrich certified, an assessment commonly used in premarital preparation, and couples come to Reunion for premarital work as well as ongoing support.
Who will I be working with?
Reunion Counseling is led by Darren Bagwell, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, alongside Kristin MacDonald, AMFT.
